Abstrak: ABSTRACT Dirga Febrianto, NIM 14101036. The title of the thesis is "Efforts of Islamic Religious Education Teachers in Motivating Students in Islamic Religious Education Subjects at SMPN 02 Sungayang". Department of Islamic Education, Faculty of Tarbiyyah and Teacher Training at IAIN Batusangkar, 2021. The focus of the problem in this study is the efforts of Islamic Religious Education teachers in motivating students in Islamic Religious Education subjects at SMPN 02 Sungayang. The purpose of this study is to describe the efforts of Islamic Religious Education teachers in motivating students in Islamic Religious Education subjects at SMP N 02 Sungayang and describe the obstacles faced by teachers in motivating students in Islamic Religious Education subjects at SMP N 02 Sungayang. This study uses a type of field research or field research using a qualitative descriptive method. The data collection technique of this research was obtained from interviews with Islamic Religious Education teachers, school principals and class VIII. The qualitative descriptive analysis technique uses the Miles and Huberman model, then to test the validity and the researcher uses the triangulation technique. From the research that the author conducted in the field, it can be concluded that the efforts of Islamic Religious Education teachers in motivating students in Islamic Religious Education subjects there are several teacher efforts to motivate students in the form of learning steps including; improving the quality of teachers, learning facilities, learning facilities, utilizing learning facilities, evaluation of learning. The teacher's efforts in generating and fostering motivation in student learning include; The teacher clarifies the goals to be achieved, the teacher arouses student interest, the teacher creates a pleasant atmosphere in learning, the teacher gives reasonable praise for each student's success, the teacher gives an assessment, the teacher comments on the students' work, the teacher creates competition and cooperation. Although teachers are trying to motivate students, there are also obstacles faced by teachers in motivating students, including: Optimizing the application of learning principles for students, optimizing dynamic elements in learning. The teacher before learning conveys the learning objectives to be achieved to students, by means of the teacher writing the learning objectives on the blackboard before learning begins. Students are motivated to learn when they are interested in learning. Therefore, increasing student interest in learning is one of the techniques of student motivation, namely, among others, the teacher gives reasonable praise to each student's success by means of good praise to students. The teacher gives an assessment of student success by means of quizzes and daily tests. The teacher provides comments on the results of student work by supporting the work done by students in working on goals. The teacher creates positive competition and employment for students by forming a group.
